The Equal Opportunity Bill -
Family First has had great success in passing amendments which substantially improve this Bill including:

1. Ensuring  that churches have the right to continue to refuse to hire people that do not live a lifestyle in line with Christian principles and the church’s ethos.  This is a tremendous achievement and will preserve current church practices.

2. Freeing faith-based schools from an obligation to place their hiring policy on their website which may have made some schools the subject of criticism by those opposing faith-based schools’ right to employ people who live a lifestyle matching the ethos of the school.

3. Preventing the Equal Opportunity Commissioner from investigating an issue in the absence of a specific complaint.  The Commissioner will now need a specific complaint to be made before an investigation can proceed.  This will prevent any future commissioner from pursuing an issue that the public has not even complained about

Sandra Kanck calls for one child policy in Australia
AdelaideNow, Wednesday 22 April 2009

Family First MLC Robert Brokenshire called the proposal "bizarre".

"To say that having more children is the cause of environmental degradation is just outrageous," he said.

"If she is on about 500,000 additional people, I agree we can't have those number of people unless we have additional water supply, but you need to remember that those 500,000 people are almost certainly immigrants, and not South Australians born and bred here.

"But it is a personal choice and it is up to husbands and wives in that family as to how many children they want and can provide for adequately."
